Using African Folktales and Audacity to Improve Reading Fluency
Sarah Hanawald, Marilyn Jones

http://fc.greensboroday.org/~shanawald/ncetc07 Link to handout and presentation

Good detail on implementation in classroom. Instructions for students on how to use Audacity.
Link to freeplaymusic is awesome. Had a participant (shown in photo) record in Audacity to show how easy it is.

Process
» start with read alouds
» student selects and read 3-5 to themselves
» student selects a story for their presentation
» read it aloud several times, including reading to a partner or small group
» give feedback to partner about inflection, pronunciation, cadence
took 6-10 class periods
need twice as many (or more) texts as students
