Back to School Jitters

I couldn't sleep last night. I went through three potential outfits this morning. I felt sick to my stomach as I headed out the door to my NEW SCHOOL! I have a classroom key and an official badge for the first time in over 6 years.

The staff are very nice and made me feel welcome with friendly greetings and lots of requests for help. I am having to relearn the layout of a school network - Macs and PCs. And a new school building. When I took my daughters to see my computer lab last week I couldn't even find the room right away. My oldest spotted my name on a sign that pointed the way.

Today I was a kindergartener leaving the safety of (working at)home and venturing out into a new place. I have just 6 days left to make the transition to teacher ready to greet students at the door of MY room.

If I can get the digital camera working, I will post a picture.

Ah but isn't it also a little...thrilling. Kind of like riding a scary/fun ride at the carnival.
Yesterday was my first day in class, today the first day for more of my classes, and I found myself nervous, shaky, a little trembly inside. I've taught these same classes for three semester now and it's usually five or so of the same class! And yet I'm nervous.
But also a bit excited.
Good luck getting acclimated and the BEST of luck when the students come in!
I'll be thinking of you.

Wesley,
Your analogy to a carnival ride is perfect. Right now I feel like I am chugging up the steepest hill of a roller coaster. Peering over the peak is both terrifying and exciting.

I have spent most of this week attending meetings and helping the other teachers with computers problems. I had to bring my prep work home to get it done. The poster board for my rules and consequences is on the dining room table and the list of students for my first class is in my briefcase waiting to be transformed into a seating chart.

Thanks for the good wishes!

Laura
